Steps to successfully removing your Kenwood car stereo without keys

If you do not have the keys to your car by your side, you can still use some other tools in order to remove the stereo. For example, we will be using two knives today, and we think that this is a very handy trick. Of course, if you decide to use knives, or some sharp object, make sure that you are being safe so that some kind of accident does not occur.

There are two methods that can result in removing your Kenwood car stereo. We recommend you to first try the first one, as since that one is super easy. And, if the easier one does not work, you can then proceed and try to do the second one. But, the second one is a bit tricky and may take some time.

Okay, so, let’s start with the actual steps now.

The easy way to remove your Kenwood car stereo

  1. The first and the main thing that you must do is to remove the cover of your Kenwood car stereo. In order to do so, you will not need any kind of special tools or skills. In order to do so, you will have to press the small button that is usually located in the bottom left corner of your Kenwood car stereo. Of course, the location of this button may vary from model to model. As soon as you find that small round button, press it and the front of your stereo will fall off into your hands.
  2. When the cover is removed, you should be able to see some of the jacks and sockets, and the actual radio. The radio will be covered in some sort of plastic, you will need to remove it as well. This is very simple, and you won’t need any special tools for this as well. You can just push the plastic down, and then up to remove it. It usually pops out very easily. But, be careful and try not to break it as you will maybe need it later!
  3. And now, you will need to use some tools (as we have mentioned earlier) in order to complete the next step. We are using two sharp knives, but, you are able to use a ruler or some sort of object that is very thin but strong.

After you have found the perfect object(s), you will need to place them in the gaps between the stereo and your car. You will have to push a bit harder until the stereo pops out of its gap. And, if the stereo is stuck, or it won’t come out, you will need to try our second, harder method. Let’s see those steps too.

The harder method of removing a Kenwood car stereo

If the easier method did not work for you, this one should give you the wanted results. Have in mind that you must first do steps 1 and 2 in the easier way because this harder method is basically just a continuation of that one.

  1. Take a look at your stereo. You should be able to see the metal barrier around it. Now, in order to remove the radio, you will probably need to remove that barrier as well. You can try to remove it just by using your hands first, and if that does not work out, use some thin but firm object in order to do so. Your radio should start to come out of its gap.
  2. Feel free to pull out your radio, but be careful to not break any kind of wires on its back while doing so. You will need the wires later to connect your new stereo.
  3. And now, you will have to remove all of the cables and detach them from your car carefully, you do not want to break any of them.

And that is basically it, the whole process of removing the Kenwood car stereo without the keys.

If you want to place the stereo back into its place, simply hook up the wires, and just do this process in reverse. After hooking up the wires and cables, put the stereo back into its gap, and place its metal and plastic cap back on.

If by chance, you are not able to remove your Kenwood car stereo without your keys, and you have tried both of these methods, we recommend you to talk to the professionals. Ask for their opinion, or let them do it themselves. That way, you will for sure safely remove the Kenwood car stereo, and you will know that it will not end up getting broken.
