There are several types of antennas, which are adapted to different circumstances according to their design, manufacture, and applicability. Some types of antennas are:
Yagi-Uda antenna
It is a type of antenna made up of metal rods that act as dipoles, which are electric field lines of two charges that have the same magnitude, but with opposite signs. These antennas are not composed of several interconnected types of equipment in different places, but simply a system of devices that, when connected, make a single piece of equipment, which makes it practical to install and mobilize in the case of needing to transfer the signal. Along with the structure of metal rods, it has a transmitter and a radio receiver, which guarantees the two main functions of an antenna, the transmission and reception of the signal.
These types of antennas were used for some types of German bombers at the end of the Second World War, in order to have constant and effective communication at the time of military operations. Being an antenna adaptable to a fighter plane, its practicality and good reception and signal emission can be perceived.
Dipole antenna
It is the simplest and most common type of antenna in radio applications. Like the Yagi antenna, it is also made up of metal rods or wires. This type of antenna consists of two separate conductive elements, including a signal receiver from which these two conductors are connected. Not only can a receiver be connected to the antenna, but also a transmitter, which gives versatility in its use. Once it has been decided which functionality to apply a dipole antenna, it can be configured to be either a receiver or a transmitter.
This duality aspect referring to configuring as a signal receiver or transmitter is very important since this type of antenna can function as an auxiliary, as well as the individual. A dipole antenna can help improve the signal receptivity of a larger antenna, or it can also be connected to a system of several antennas to improve the signal it emits.
The most widely used dipole antenna is the half-wave dipole antenna. This type of antenna is resonant, which implies that its dimensions are in the order of half a wavelength.
Parabolic antennas
These antennas are designed to receive signals from satellites or other transmitters, where the geometry of the antenna promotes signal receptivity. Parabolic antennas have been one of the most efficient inventions, since they can be manufactured in many sizes, with many applications, such as the internet, radio communications, and others.
The principle of these antennas is the parabola figure of the receiving plate since the parabolas have a focal property, which, when the signal waves impinge in a certain direction, they all go to the same point, called the focus, as follows:
Where the blue curved line is the antenna receiving dish, the red point is the focus, the green arrows represent the direction in which the signal waves or streaks hit the dish and the orange arrows represent the rebound of the signals. green waves or streaks and they are directed towards the focus, where there is a signal receptor.
It is not necessary that the focus is always centered on the parabola or plate, there are some cases in which the rays do not arrive parallel to the focal axis, so the focus cannot be centered in these cases.
